About Cubitt Theobald

Building beautifully

Our Story

Founded in 1903, Cubitt Theobald is a well-established building and joinery company with a proud heritage of training and craftsmanship. Originally family owned and managed, the business became employee owned in 2024, strengthening our commitment to quality, collaboration and long-term stewardship.

The majority of our workforce typically joined us from school and have carried out traditional apprenticeships. Our management team are professionally qualified, enabling our status as a Chartered Building Company.

We carry out refurbishment, restoration, extension and repair projects across Suffolk and East Anglia, and we design and handcraft kitchens and bespoke cabinetry in our own joinery workshops. Our experienced team aims to offer a friendly, professional service and takes pride in combining traditional skills with modern techniques to achieve exceptional results.

Our Crafts

Masonry

From heritage restoration to bespoke architectural features our bricklayers are experienced in the use of traditional methods using lime based products as well as modern alternatives often using hand made bricks.  We are able to strengthen and repair old brickwork, fit intricate stonework as well as building new work using modern bricks.

Our carpenters are highly skilled craftsmen, experienced in structural and architectural timber work. They combine traditional skills to repair historic structures and windows using traditional tools to make traditional joints through to fitting precision modern products.  We are able to carefully repair old structures and joinery rather than replacing items which can be made to last for many more years.

Our decorators are highly skilled professionals, experienced in bringing interiors and exteriors to life with impeccable finishes. Our decorators are experienced in the use of traditional products such as lime wash, mineral based paints as well as modern paints and finishes of all types. Great care is taken to prepare surfaces correctly to ensure a good long-lasting finish.

Our in-house joinery combines years of craftsmanship with modern precision. Based in Suffolk, our skilled team creates bespoke kitchens, custom cabinetry, and one-off joinery, carefully tailored to each client’s specifications. Every piece is handcrafted using the finest materials, ensuring exceptional quality, timeless design, and durability that lasts for generations.

In addition to our in-house team, we collaborate with a network of trusted specialist trades. Our network includes specialist plasterers, tilers, roofers, thatchers, blacksmiths, plumbers, electricians and many other highly skilled artisans.
